Hello, all you wonderful judges and staff!
I chose to do a shrine for Mary because I do legitimately love her as a character. I think that she's one of the most completely underrated characters in Survivor's history, and that's one of the main reasons why I really wanted to represent her here in The Island of Love.
There are two other reasons, and they are fantastic.
Now, Mary isn't someone that's immediately appreciable the way the rest of the cast are. Cliff is an NBA all star, he's probably got shrines to him in real life. Ethan was honored as one of the sexiest men alive. Jefra's a famous model. Spencer has a huge fanbase. Even Bob Dawg has his own supporters. But when you talk about Mary Sartain, most Survivor fans will come back with the phrase, "Mary who?"
I really wish I'd thought of this joke earlier. It's way easier to find Doctor Who pics than Invisible Girl ones. ALSO, the thing she's holding is a sonic screwdriver. It is not, as Yul mistakenly thought when I showed it to him, a dildo.
Mary is a hidden treasure, she's a person that doesn't get nearly enough recognition and love. She's got this incredible spark to her, that goes beyond her physical beauty. She's an entrepreneur, an incredibly talented businesswoman, and she's got this magnetic charm and charisma that goes far beyond her looks. It's hard to say where this kind of inner beauty and awesomeness come from. I guess you could say it's just something about her.
So, because Mary is someone that isn't immediately appreciated, I decided to go above and beyond here, and take my shrine concept to a whole new level. See, a Shrine traditionally is a religious site, it's not someplace that you can just waltz right into. You have to be in the right frame of mind, get yourself ready and into a place where you can truly appreciate the sanctity of the moment, otherwise the spirits will be insulted by your impiety. In this case, you're entering a space dedicated to the goddess Mary Sartain, and in order to help get you into a proper frame of mind I've provided you guys a little bit of soothing background music.
Now that you've entered a more appropriate frame of mind, I will proudly unveil my shrine to the majestic goddess that is, was, and always will be, Mary Sartain. Behold!
